FESTIVAL LENTERA MELAYU SEBAGAI MEDIA EDUKASI DAN PELESTARIAN BUDAYA LOKAL BERBASIS PARTISIPASI KOMUNITAS
Abstract
This community service activity aims to strengthen the role of cultural festivals as media for cultural education and local cultural preservation through a community-based approach, implemented through the Lentera Melayu Festival in Rantau Panjang Village, Pantai Labu District, on August 10, 2025. The program was initiated in response to the declining practice and transmission of Malay cultural values, particularly among younger generations, and the lack of participatory cultural learning spaces. Using a participatory descriptive method, the community was actively involved in all stages of the program, including problem identification, planning, coordination, festival implementation, and sustainability evaluation. The results demonstrate increased community participation in cultural activities, greater awareness and sense of ownership of Malay cultural heritage, and the enhancement of the festival’s function as an experiential learning space. Beyond its ceremonial aspects, the Lentera Melayu Festival serves as a platform for community empowerment and sustainable cultural preservation. The activity highlights the effectiveness of community-based cultural festivals in fostering cultural engagement and offers a potential model for local-level cultural preservation initiatives.
